2023 Winner – Jessica Bakar

Please join us in congratulating Jessica Bakar on being the recipient of our 2023 scholarship!

Jessica is an undergraduate from the San Francisco Bay Area majoring in Political Science and Psychology. Although she is only in her first semester at McGill University, she has already joined her school’s Model United Nations traveling delegation team as well as the McGill Youth Advisory Delegation, a youth-centered advocacy group with consultative status with the United Nations ECOSOC. She is also an assistant editor for McGill’s online literary journal Snapps and serves on the First Year Council of the Political Science Students’ Association. Outside of school, Jessica dedicates time to her creative writing, which has been recognized by National Scholastic and the Bay Area Creative Foundation. After completing her Bachelor of Arts and Science, she intends to study law.

In Jessica’s words, “I am honored and appreciative of this incredible opportunity and financial support that will aid me in completing my undergraduate studies. I am committed to making the most of this opportunity and using this generous scholarship to further my education and contribute positively to my community through advocacy and research in the social sciences.”

2022 Winner – Emilia Fiebel

We are excited to congratulate the winner of our 2022 scholarship, Emilia Fiebel!

Emilia is a senior at Sheridan Technical High School and currently lives in Hollywood, FL. She is interested in studying Environmental Science and International Relations at Florida State University or the University of Florida and is enrolled in the Legal Administrative Specialist program at Sheridan Technical College. She is the Student Government president and holds officer positions in other extracurriculars like Key Club, Drama Club, BrainBowl, and Class of 2023. Outside of academics, she is a competitive dancer and enjoys reading and traveling in her free time. She serves on councils such as the Gulf of Mexico Youth Advisory Council, Superintendent Student Advisory Committee, and the EarthEcho International Water Challenge program.

In Emilia’s words, “I am incredibly grateful to have been given this opportunity and the financial assistance that I need to pursue a career in conservation and sustainability. Making strides in climate change research and activism has been my passion since I was little, and this scholarship has gotten me one step further to my bachelor’s degree.”

2021 Winner – Lakeeyia Malcolm

We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to our first-ever scholarship winner, Lakeeyia Malcolm!

Lakeeyia is an undergraduate nursing student attending Widener University in their accelerated program. She is a member of the nurses’ student association and was a dean’s list recipient for the fall 2020 semester. As she is finishing her first semester of her senior year, she aspires to work in the intensive care unit or in the labor and delivery unit. Outside of school, she is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and a member of the Delta Omega honor society for Public Health. Lakeeyia anticipates to graduate with her Bachelors’ in Nursing in May 2022.

In Lakeeyia’s words, “This scholarship has enabled me to have financial support while continuing my studies as a future registered nurse. This scholarship has impacted my life in a positive aspect, as I plan to make a positive impact for my future patients. As I continue throughout my journey, I am excited to be able to gain more hands-on experience and clinical knowledge, and to make a contribution to the healthcare industry.”
